Staffing

Our Philosophy

At Apple Orchard, we recognise that the success of our work relies heavily on the skills and motivation of our dedicated staff team.

We place great emphasis on recruiting appropriately qualified and experienced individuals. We believe that the personal authority of individual staff members and the cohesion of the team are fundamental in creating a safe environment where young people feel secure, knowing that adults can manage their difficulties.

Staff empowerment is viewed as the cornerstone of effective practice, and we ensure our staff have the necessary knowledge, skills, and support structures to undertake this challenging and often emotive work. This is achieved through ongoing staff development, including continuous professional development, regular supervision, and group consultation.

Keyworker

Staffing Structure

Our staffing is carefully structured to ensure that the young people in our care live in a safe and supported environment. We maintain a staff ratio of 1:2, with one member of the late shift team sleeping on the premises. Additionally, we employ two permanent waking night staff to provide a calming influence at night, recognising that night-time can be particularly difficult for some of our young people.

Keyworker System

Each young person at Apple Orchard is allocated a keyworker. These keyworker meetings offer regular opportunities for the young person to discuss their week and voice any concerns or worries they may have. The keyworker also serves as a delegated advocate during the young person’s stay and is responsible for attending reviews and submitting monthly progress reports.

Activities and Celebrations

Our team invests considerable time in arranging a variety of in-house and outdoor activities, including camping trips, mountain biking, golf, football, bowling, cinema, and theatre nights. During school holidays, we offer a program of activities that include visits to theme parks and activity centres. All activities, whether on or off-site, are thoroughly risk assessed.

We understand that birthdays and Christmas can be challenging times for young people away from their homes and families. Our dedicated team works diligently to make these occasions enjoyable and memorable, investing time and preparation to create positive experiences and lasting memories for the young people in our care.
